Currently due to the COVID19 pandemic, many people are suffering socially, mentally and economically. Malaysians are obliged to abide to Movement Control Order (MCO) announced by the government. Therefore, many of them have limited sources of food due to restriction for working. On the other hand, many had lost their jobs. People are struggling to survive and to feed their family.
Animal ethic is very crucial for researchers and students in conducting animal studies. Each institutions has their own committee that had been authorized to observe the animal ethic practices among the community of the university. At International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), IIUM Animal Care and Use Committee (I-ACUC) has been appointed to cater on the animal ethic issues in the university. Students and researchers should apply for approval from I-ACUC before conducting an animal research. The Committee hold a responsibility to ensure the IIUM community exposed with the knowledge concerning animal care and husbandry.
Congratulations to our members of iMoleC, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lokman Md. Isa and Dr. Redzuan Nul Hakim, for winning “The Best Article Journal on Science Technology & Medicine (International Index)” at MAPIM KPT Award 2019! The award ceremony was organized by MAPIM (Majlis Penerbitan Ilmiah Malaysia) and was held on Tuesday, 30th of March 2021, via Cisco Webex.
Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) is a software designed to assist its users in analyzing data related to statistics. Therefore, this software is very helpful for quantitative research. However, Many of the students and researchers are facing difficulties in using SPSS software to help them in analyzing data for their researches. They are lack of understanding on how to use the software and how the software can benefit them in their research.
IIUM Molecular and Cellular Biology Research Cluster (iMoleC) have reached another milestone when the members, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lokman Md. Isa, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Afzan Mat Yusof and Dr. Noratikah Othman, represented International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) to sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Borneo Rhino Alliance (BORA), an NGO engaged in wildlife conservation in Sabah. The parties agreed to collaborate in the research activities on endangered species. The ceremony had taken place at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) on 6th January 2020.
Laboratory Animal Science (LAS) is a specialized subject considered under Veterinary Medicine & Animal Science. LAS is fast developing subject in the world which is necessary for bio-medical research. The development of cell culture techniques and computer models has reduced the use of animal models in research in the recent past. These in-vitro models however, cannot substitute in-vivo animal totally as in-vitro models cannot be applied directly to in-vivo situation. Knowledge and expertise on Laboratory Animal Science is an urgent need for researchers engaged in animal experiments, particularly in developing countries like Malaysia.
